Faculty Members Secure Major Research Grant
A team of faculty members from International Alatoo University has secured a major research grant from the European Union to study climate change impacts in Central Asia.
A team of researchers from International Alatoo University has been awarded a prestigious research grant of €2.5 million from the European Union's Horizon Europe program. The grant will fund a three-year project titled "Climate Change Adaptation Strategies for Central Asian Ecosystems."
The research team, led by Dr. Natalia Ivanova from the Department of Environmental Sciences, includes faculty members from various disciplines, including ecology, geography, economics, and social sciences. The project aims to assess the impacts of climate change on ecosystems in Central Asia and to develop sustainable adaptation strategies for vulnerable communities.
"This grant provides us with a unique opportunity to conduct comprehensive research on one of the most pressing challenges facing our region," said Dr. Ivanova. "Climate change is already affecting ecosystems and communities in Central Asia, and our research will contribute to developing effective adaptation strategies."
The project will involve field research in various locations across Central Asia, laboratory analysis, modeling of climate scenarios, and engagement with local communities and policymakers. The research team will collaborate with scientists from partner institutions in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and several European universities.
"This grant not only recognizes the expertise of our faculty but also strengthens our university's position as a leading research institution in the region," said Dr. Robert Kim, Vice President for Research and Innovation at International Alatoo University. "It also provides valuable opportunities for our graduate students to participate in cutting-edge research."
The project is expected to produce several scientific publications, policy recommendations, and practical tools for climate change adaptation. The research findings will be shared with policymakers, environmental organizations, and local communities through workshops, conferences, and public outreach activities.
